Yes, your beloved storytelling site is a year old now!! All thanks be to God!
I’ve always had a knack for telling stories, although for a while, the whole passion died out and I was looking at other things. But somewhere in 2016, as you’ve probably already gotten to know by now, I wrote something that was supposed to be flash fiction, but thanks to positive peer pressure, became a series.
Granted, that was not exactly the first series I’ve ever written, but it did set the pace. Three years on, and a few more series later, after much deliberation, I decided to set up this special site!
I vividly remember setting it up in my classroom, taking out some time from learning for a mad intense exam period to bring the State to life. Of course, that was just a little set up. Man had to finish the exams before really putting it out there. So it was pretty much the first episode of Meet The Dolphynes that was the outdooring day of the site.
Anyways, it’s been quite a journey. The most popular series is obviously ‘Meet The Dolphynes‘, and I’m delighted y’all have been around for it. Of course, there’s been equal love shown for the mini-series released throughout as well, like ‘A Fitting Solatium‘, ‘Where’s My Little Boy?‘ among others.
I must say, inasmuch as the COVID-19 pandemic has really interrupted our general plans for 2020 (I should’ve been completing my final exams by now, chale), some good came out of it for the State, as y’all really binged during lockdown. Definitely some crazy stats I got between March and April.
And I ended up putting out a bit more content than I had planned originally last year. Chale, things don’t always go the way you’d expect, but you can make the most out of it.
Within this year, the State has gone through a bit of a makeover. From a normal WordPress blog to something a lil more different. A total of 14 titles can be found on the site, including 3 anthologies of short stories I wrote way back in the day.
What more can I say but a huge thank you to everyone who has supported the journey! Since it kicked off, many of you have faithfully followed, read and complimented or attacked me in my DMs for various reasons (it’s always hilarious to see those emotions from y’all). You all make the effort and passion worth it, and I thank you all.
There are two gentlemen to whom I owe a lot, though. And necessity is laid on me to mention their names.
EDGAR JEFFREY BAIDOO!! You must know this by now, chale. He created the Dabar logo, and is behind the designs of Meet The Dolphynes, A Fitting Solatium and many more yet to come! Since you can testify to the brilliant work he does, do me a favour and give him a follow on Instagram.
MAKAFUI TORKORNOO! At this point, he’s no longer just a big fan of the State, he’s a contributor. Superhero Down and Stalling For A Fool were done by him, and I’m so honoured to have his works on the State. They are definitely worth the read!
So once again, thank you all for your constant support, words of encouragement and all-round show of love. I really appreciate it. This has been a life-long love of mine, to create stories, and to finally be making something out of it is awesome. The amount of views this State has received in one year is more than what my previous blog amassed in 6 years, so I’m pretty pleased.
Of course, this is just the beginning. There are higher grounds I’m reaching for, so I need to up my skills and do better and learn more. I honestly need your support, though. Following all the social media platforms, sharing the stories, that sort of thing. That will really help the State to grow. I’ve got some serious aims for this site that I wanna see come to fruition by its 5th anniversary, but it won’t happen without your support. So help me make this venture an even more successful one.
So, here’s to many more years of better stories, awesome characters and great lessons!! Onward and upward, Dabar!!
